I have written this article for
the students of the Warriors Defence Academy, best CDS coaching in Lucknow, as
well the students preparing for the defence exams all over the country. This
article also applies to general students who want to learn mathematics but its
complexity seems dreadful to them. Please go through the following points.
1. Extra-curricular books. If your course
work seems heavy and prosaic and every time you face it, you have a tendency to
run away then find some really interesting books on Mathematics. I found “Fun
and Fundamentals of Mathematics ” by Jayant V Narlikar, Emeritus Indian
Scientist, and I immediately fell in love with the powerful visualization of
the inherent structures on which whole Mathematics is based.
Also, “Puzzles
to Puzzle you” by Shakuntala Devi will suck you inside. You will be completely
immersed in the problems and discover a great joy in getting involved with
something so fabulous at a deeper level. I was travelling in a general class
compartment in Indian Railways and I had a problem from this book to solve. I
was standing and I was so involved in solving the problem that I spent whole 4
hours journey standing yet my legs did not ache. When I finally found the
solution and became generally aware of the environment, I saw my destined
station nearing.
For the students
who don`t like or find it hard to learn calculus, there is a book of elementary
calculus written by a Russian writer L V Tarasov. It is written as a dialogue
between a teacher and students hence extremely interesting. I learnt a great
deal on limits, differential through it. The name of the book is “Calculus
Basic Concepts for High Schools.”
You can find it
on the internet in the PDF format on the website www.archive.org .
2. Application. Whatever you learn in
mathematics there is a reason and it`s future use. You should not see the topic
as something as abstract but you must find it as a missing link between two
points. When you study the concept keeping that in mind it begins to make
sense. Often geometry or mensuration have real-life applications hence they
make sense quickly. I always had a tendency to derive possible use of the
topics I learnt hence they did made sense and were interesting.
3. Calculations. Mathematical calculations
require sound concentration and uninterrupted length of time. You must strive
hard to make your calculations error free even though the subject or the
problem itself does not make sense to you. Also, there are tricks to reduce
length of the long calculations. You can find them on Youtube. Your error free
calculations will surely develop confidence in you regarding your abilities and
the correct results will certainly entice you to attempt more problems and the
subject will keep getting interesting. Shakir sir at Warriors defence Academy,
best CDS coaching in
Lucknow, has uploaded several
of his lectures which explain mathematical tricks on Youtube on Warriors
Defence Academy page.
4. Visualization. You must have the
ability to visualize the problem. Many domains in the mathematics have problems
which can be visualized and become very easy to solve when you get the complete
picture of the problem. Imagine problem as a live event running in your mind.
Place every fact and data to its place and then find out what is missing. A
good problem solver always knows that the answer lies in properly figuring out
the question. You must go through the problem multiple times until you have a
clear picture of the problem and you exactly know what to find. Once you have
known what is to be found, next move to find the ways to find the answer. The
solution will not be very tough with this approach.
5. Your will. I don`t know if adding a motivational
point in an academic topic is as per decorum of a good writer but this is
important. You must have a will power to back yourself through frustrating
moments and when you think that my article is rubbish and it is not working in
your life. It will work. It has worked for me. It works for millions worldwide.
It will work for you. All you need is to stay mentally prepare for the
beginning phase when you are new to the subject and you find it tough going on
with it. Your perseverance will pay. Once you will start getting results the
great engine will start pulling you and you love Mathematics. You can take also
help from the teachers. The teachers in your academy, best defence coaching
in Lucknow, are very co-operative and eager to help.
I will be
continuing this article in more depth. It was just a beginning and overview.
